so recently I've been either playing new games that have been coming out (RD2 or AC odyssey.... so fucking good) and I've also been playing TTT on gmod. Now for those of you who haven't played gmod, I look at it like this, there are the kids who are really young and really shouldn't be playing these games but they do, don't talk much but if there is a rare sighting they do it's actually kinda cute, the about 11-15 range, arguably 16 depends who it is who imo are the annoying of the annoying, who think internet mems are the funniest thing ever and they think they know best, then anyone older who has reached real life and they're complicated. anyways, going into detail on the middle.... I've made an observation. I decided to check out jailbreak after playing TTT for a while (where with the server I play on, majority are teens and adults... and the younger teens kinda know there place sometimes) and I didn't last 20 minutes. I mean maybe it was just a bad night, but I couldn't believe how many "kids" were spamming memes in chat, quoting memes I've never heard of, regardless I already know they aren't funny, and purposely didn't use proper english. Now don't get me wrong, I've come to kinda skip english to make things run faster, but that's only if I'm typing... I'm talking on the mic, where kids sounded like they've been hiding under a blanket browsing reddit and other shit rotting their brains to the point it's like they're mindless zombies who feed off shitty internet memes. So, my point i'm getting across is, I don't get it. I just can't figure out why they act like they do... why the ugandan knuckles meme was like they just saw someone do something really stupid and you just can't stop laughing, why they feel so entitled and they know better then you... why they don't stop until either they've been bullied enough at school, they actually understand how stupid they're being, or they remain like that until their mother kicks them out of their basement.

TL:DR, many TF2 players are a mystery to why they act like they do, and if you can get out of there well you still have a chance.

My question is, do you know why they act that way? is it cause life is hard and this is a comfort, is it cause they're kids/preteens and hell I found shit like that funny when I was that young, or is it maybe because TF2 was accidently more for kids, cause technically it is a violent game but you know how it is with the taunts and all colorful stuff. Thoughts?

I've only played a couple of servers on gmod, so I'm no expert on if GMOD is better for having more teens and young adults then TF2, just what I've seen

Individuals tend to conform with the [mass] majority in order to fit in so that they do not feel left out on whatever is happening. People just want to be part of the norm. My guess is that when the kids first joined the jailbreak server, they saw everyone else spewing dead memes, and so they thought if they do the same thing they would make friends, or at least blend in with the crowd. By relating to what the server is doing, that being spamming dead memes, kids are more likely to adopt the attitude they were influenced by. I'm sure the kids are aware of what they're doing is ridiculous, but they're not going to change their behavior anytime soon if others are acting the same way as the kids are. Keep in mind that children are easily swayed by any info thrown at them due to their still-developing brains.

A similar situation happened to me: I took a break from jailbreak for a week or so (because my friends and I wanted to check out other games for a bit since we thought jailbreak was getting repetitive), and when I came back to the usual server I play on I left after two to three rounds because I couldn't stand the players screaming into their mic as if it was supposed to make me laugh.

Attempting to edit my previous post, but it doesn’t seem to work so I’ll just make a separate post.

The reason for kids gravitating more towards TF2 than GMOD is that TF2 is free to download and play. Some kids don’t have the luxury of spending money on games so they’ll resort to games that are free. Even if they do have a spending budget, they’re likely to spend that money on in-game items that are in the free games they play (take Fortnite for example). Another reason that TF2 is more appealing to a younger fanbase is that TF2 is a FPS at its core, while GMOD is a sandbox based game. TF2 is more entertaining to children, cause y’know, guns and bright colors. I’m sure there are more reasons that can be listed to why TF2 has a younger audience, but the two I listed, I feel are the main reasons as to why it’s like that.

ok another interesting find last night, a guy maybe 15 or 16 made himself a leader figure to the kids. It was interesting he was able to make 2/3 of the server do whatever he wanted... power did get to his head. Because of him I basically massacred the whole red team, and after that he went crazy about how I mass freekilled and yet he told everyone to not listen to me and it was freeday. What was interesting was when he could not control me he spent like 3 rounds the entire time ranting about me. Power is a dangerous thing.

Games can be just like social media. If you can entitle your own opinion for something being hilarious, kids will take their time just to share it because in that one time and moment they find it funny. It's like finding something funny in one day, then it being over the day after, only, it's for months on over. In a kid's psychological mind, anything can be funny and once they're curious they can reach out to what they want to try and reach out to. If parents aren't there to intervene, then they will go on to their will.

If they're able to reach out and play tf2, they will. If they can persuade their parents to keep playing it, they will. It's what they decide to do as kids.

about 4 years ago I used to be one of those "guys that took power" and I used to micwhore on the SAME SERVER almost every day, and at some point, you learn to realize it isn't power, only, people favorite you and it's mostly mob mentality. Now, most of these people are kids, so obviously if they find humor in you, like shouting a cuss word, they will instantly love you for basically their whole time on the server given. At this point it isn't about being funny or trying to find fun but, trying to attach yourself to the fun because as kids, they always feel like they're left out because once you're apart of the server, they feel like they have to stay attached to it, unless they're mature then, good job you can stand your own ground and not care what someone is saying on a mic.
