Deathrun is like most competitive games out there; easy to learn, hard to master. You'll probably get how the gamemode itself works in the first 10 minutes, but learning every single trap, minigame and possibly easter egg of every single map will take time. A lot of it. And you will die for bs reasons. A lot.
What I love about deathrun is when you're dead, you're not wasting time. When you spectate others, you either laugh on how stupidly that guy died, or how well he knows the map and is blazing through the traps and minigames, you learn how they work that way, too.
